"We, Sisters of Mercy Parramatta Congregation, will protect the rights of the natural world and make practical efforts to stem the hurtful effects of climate change, pollution and the ‘throw away’ mentality." (Chapter Statement)

World Environment Day 5 June) this year invites us all to join in the global effort to #BeatPlasticPollution.

Plastic pollution is all pervasive, yet it has been identified as one of the critical environmental issues of our time, piling up on land, building up in oceans, with plastic taking 400 years to decompose. It is also a social justice issue with wealthy countries exporting plastic waste to poorer countries to dispose of it.

All of us are being encouraged today —and hopefully for good — to become part of the solution to beating plastic pollution, rather than a contributor to the problem.

The website RecyclingNearYou.com.au lets us know what we can and can't recycle in our household recycling services.

It also provides drop-off locations to recycle a wide range of items including electronic waste, batteries, printer cartridges, whitegoods, furniture and much more.
