Sisters of Mercy Increase Support in New Parramatta Mission Partnership
On Wednesday June 1st, the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta provided a free sponsored lunch at the Parramatta Mission Meals Plus Program. The Sponsored Lunch marked the beginning of a upgraded 3 year partnership between the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta and the Parramatta Mission Meals Plus Program. During the lunch the Sisters presented a $10,000 cheque to Parramatta Mission, being the first payment of our 3 year, $30,000 commitment to support this vital program.
For a number of years, the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta have provided an annual donation to the Meals Plus program to mark the birthdays of our sisters through giving a gift to those in need. From this month, the Sisters have formalised their support with a commitment to increased funding of the program with a $10,000 donation each year for three years.
The Sisters see the work of Parramatta Mission's Meal Plus program as akin to the work of the Sisters in Parramatta who since arriving in 1888, provided meals at the Convent door to those in need. Over the years, Sisters also volunteered with services which provided food and support to those in need or crisis. In supporting the work of Parramatta Mission, we see a continuity in the ministry of those many sisters across our 128 year history in Parramatta.
On June 1st, aside from the cheque presentation, the Sponsored Lunch allowed the Mercy Sisters and staff to lend a hand with set-up, meal preparation and meal service, thereby assisting the incredible staff and volunteers who provide nutritious meals to those in need in Parramatta and surrounding areas, 5 days a week.
