Season of Advent

Advent, the four weeks leading to Christmas, is a time of hopeful anticipation and joyful preparation for the coming of Christ.

The word ‘Advent’ comes from the Latin for a Greek word: ‘parousía’… which means presence or being near, and can also mean coming or arrival…

Through focussing on each of the four Advent themes in turn: Hope, Peace, Joy, Love, we grow in awareness of the presence of God in our lives, of the coming of Jesus: God’s presence enfleshed among us, and to reflect on Christ’s promise to come again.

We pray

God of wonders, your care for us is manifested in the gift of your Son, Jesus, who came among us long ago as a little child.

Help each of us prepare in thought, word and deed during this Advent Season to celebrate his coming again.
