Responding in Mercy to the Homeless

Wednesday 3 May 6.30 – 8.00 pm

The Mercy Futures group invites you to our second session of the Responding in Mercy Program that will focus on the challenging issue of Homelessness.

Annabelle Daniel, CEO of Women's Community Shelterswill lead this session with Carol Harding and Sister Mary-Louise Petro rsm taking part in the discussion. The session will cover:

  • Broad issues relating to demostic violence and homelessness for women
  • The role and work of Women's Community Shelter Organisation
  • Mercy response to homelessness and domestic violence issues - what we are doing and what could you do

Annabelle Daniel's life changing moment was taking a year's leave from her public service career with the Department of Human Services; working across the Child Support and Centrelink programs to run Elsie, Australia's longest established women's refuge. This opportunity fired her passion for supporting women's journeys towards new lives of independence and in 2013 she took on the role as CEO of Women's Community Shelters (WCS). WCS is not-for-profit organization set up on a "social franchise" model to provide emergency accommodation for homeless women in NSW, in partnership with local communities. Their innovative model uses community donations, philanthropy and a small amount of federal government funding to support homeless women and children in NSW.

Sr. Mary-Louise led a reflection/action group on this topic last year at the Parramatta Mercy's administration centre.
