Honouring Sacrifice - Praying for Peace

On this centenary of the landing of ANZAC Forces in Gallipoli, the Sisters of Mercy remember with gratitude all those who gave their lives in defence of freedom, or suffered the life-long effects of the horrors of war. We remember all those who have lost loved ones, whose lives have forever been changed by the impact of conflicts and wars on their families and friends.

We pause today to remember and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their countries, in all wars and times of conflict:

“One can have no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends.
John 15:13.

We pray for those who return from war bearing the physical and emotional scars of their service. May our gratitude be reflected in  our society's ongoing care and support of these men and women and their families.

We pray too, that in our remembering the costs of war, our world will come to know a deep and lasting peace, grounded in our respect for and recognition of, our human dignity.
