Parramatta Mercy Reconciliation Group
Our reconciliation group has been
involved in various activities to promote the Reconciliation process between
indigenous and non-indigenous Australians.

These activities have included:
-
formal submission to the Council for
Reconciliation on the Document for Reconciliation
-
blessing and naming of Boundary
Street Parramatta Mercy house "Wiangaberong"- the name given to them by the
Darug people who are the traditional owners of the area. The name means
"Sister's Place"
-
On the same occasion in conjunction
with the Darug people from the Holy Family parish Mt Druitt and with many
Sisters and friends of the Wiangaberong community, the Sisters named their
garden "The Pemulwuy Garden" after the Aboriginal hero who bravely and
cleverly resisted the British invaders of his country around Parramatta,
Toongabbie, Castle Hill
-
a walk along the Parramatta River to
view the walkway paintings by Aboriginal artist Jamie Eastwood much depict the
early contact history in the area
-
some members are part of the Chifley
Reconciliation group which meets in Mt Druitt and plans and holds a
Reconciliation celebration and walk in Penrith each year in December
