Reverence for the earth

As Sisters of Mercy we are seeking to become active in addressing the problems which are threatening to destroy the ecological balance in our universe, and hence the lives and welfare of future generations.  As a first step, we are working through our shared learnings and reflections in such areas as Creation Spirituality, the Story of the Universe and the principles of the Earth Charter to raise our own awareness of the present ecological crisis and work with others to the same end.  Building on this foundation of study and reflection, we can then move forward encouraging one another to take actions which will help restore the delicate balance in the diversity of life.

The Earth Charter sets us the following aims and aspirations:

Together in hope we pledge to:

1. Respect Earth and all life.
2. Care for the community of life in all its diversity.
3. Strive to build free, just, participatory, sustainable, and peaceful societies.
4. Secure Earth's abundance and beauty for present and future generations
